NICENICENICE!! Very nice your page...

Why not text in serveral languages?

Harry Larman2003-02-12 20:49:15
Hofstadter states in GEB that the picture is necessarily incomplete. Is this true?

Ray Lee2003-02-12 04:09:24
Hey, can I help you do more of these? I'd love to use Dr. Suess images :)

This is most fabulous!! I am intrigued. Will be back for more.

Anna Rodenhausen2003-02-03 14:43:25
This web site is great!

giovanni curcio2003-02-03 05:53:43

Andrea2003-02-02 18:00:55
Leuke lezing in Maastricht, afgelopen week.

Succes verder.

Very impressive, indeed! The Dutch Studies department at the University of California (Berkeley) and the Netherlands America League of California look forward to Hendrik Lenstra's lecture on "Escher and the Droste Effect" in Berkeley on Sunday February 23.

Ik heb veel positieve reakteis gehoord.

Reid Blackburn2003-01-31 04:55:31
great images. Thanks for your website.

Jan Maas2003-01-30 17:20:29
Sukses verder, Jan Maas Universiteit Twente.

Mooi gedaan!! Fraaie site.

Great stuff.

just amazing !!!

olivier Pellet2003-01-25 15:40:47
Fine ! What Escher made whithout any computer, it seems you needed one, but it's fabulous! The video clip_1_1 is really interesting : a rather good animation of the perception of the drawing. A nice job concieling maths and art! Note : this special effect is known as "Flodor's Chips" effect in France (effet des Chips Flodor) or more scientifically a "mise en abime de l'image"(in french!). Good work for any new picture analysis !

Pierre Gloesener2003-01-22 22:09:25
Fantastic insight into the world of Escher, which shows at the same time the depth of his artistic thinking and the formal beauty of mathematics. Thanks and congratulations.

Thanks for your marvellous job. PH from France.

I meet Escher´s work few weeks ago.I never see nothing like this. Sublime. Me parece algo Sublime.

frans klaus2003-01-21 15:42:18
As long time Escher fan (since 1960) I was delighted to see that people have taken the trouble to finish one of his great ideas with the help of the computer. The presentation of the site is also fantastic. I'm very glad that my uncle pointed me to this effort.

... read more

Fantastic!

Bart de Smit kindly answered our questioning with an excellent article from SIAM www.siam.org/siamnews/10-02/escher.pdf (probably well-known to mathematicians...)that not only clearly explains the way the project was initiated and conducted, filling a few holes in the present site, but above all, reinstalling the flawless reputation of the team versus the memory of Escher, something the press wasn't always producing. I thus would urge all people interested to read this text asap, and would ... read more

Go to www.mcescher.com, Carissa. Lots of info and numerous interesting links. Also read contributions in this guestbook (site looks dormant, unfortunately: "Hellooooo, Webmaster, anybody in here ????")

GREAT!!! Good job. It is good to check harmony with algebra.

Nel De Clerck2003-01-13 18:57:02
Enjoyed very much the animation. A wonderful job! How long did it take you to unravel this Escher "soft" spot?

Carissa2003-01-13 18:47:43
I would like to receive more info about Escher.

Super Sache. Danke für den Link an Samuel.

In this new text written to explain the very purpose of this programming project as asked by a few correspondents, I take the opportunity to add some references of people who also contributed ideas and whom I forgot to mention in previous notes. I do not repeat here those already acknowledged earlier. The point is that, among others (tilings, polyhedra, quest to infinity, etc...), Escher was working on images of impossible things and situations. Its "Print Gallery" belongs to that last ... read more

Here what I try to send to all conributors with valid e-mail addresses... I hope the project team will give their comments too !. Dear Escher admirers, Recently I discovered the most inspiring http://escherdroste.math.leidenuniv.nl site and the very interesting discussion going on in its guestbook, with more than eight hundred entries now, so I made sort of a summary with some new thoughts of mine they induced. You might be interested to have a look and further elaborate perhaps? If ... read more

Samuel Verbiese2003-01-08 23:42:22
Coming back here after my first comments of yesterday... I took the time to dig into the guestbook, to discover it contains a few very crisp and deep thoughts that painstakingly and precisely cristallise unspoken-out impressions many readers might have experienced somehow, in the perception of both the original print and its "completion". One of the excellent features of this site really is this guestbook facility, that allows to expand and elaborate even more on the fascinating subject. ... read more

He is really amazing. Imagine what we let computers do today. He did it with his mind alone...!

Samuel Verbiese2003-01-07 09:57:04
Among the very best sites I've been induced to see (by Charles Fontaine) ! A meta contribution to Escher, simultaneously didactically informative and aesthetically pleasing, it virtually swallows you into infinity: a long vision of the swirling large avi's almost turns you dizzy ! Also links to a most helpfully commented on-line dictionnary on mathematical concepts.

Daniel Wathelet2003-01-06 20:43:03
