| its astonishing that escher did this so many years ago, and to decypher his work of art it took modern technology. he was a true genius and i think u for bringing all of this to light. its impossible to notice every significant detail in this piece but you showed me alot more than i ever noticed before. |

| Een prachtige site, vooral de anumaties zijn adembenemend.
Het "gat" in het midden van de prent is ingevuld. Waarom zat het gat er dan? Ik denk, omdat in het gat dezelfde afbeelding zit van de prent als geheel, aleen verkleind en gedraaid, en in het midden daarvan opnieuw, enz. - het Droste-effect dus.

| Geweldig! Een tijdje terug kocht ik een boek over Eschers werk. De uitleg over de transformatie in dat boek was tamelijk helder, maar het bleef onduidelijk waarom dat gat in het midden zat. Dat is nu opgelost. Overigens is het ontwerp van deze website óók schitterend. Eén klein vraagje: kunnen jullie meer informatie geven over wat een 'exponential map on the plane of complex numbers' precies is? |

| i'm taking complex analysis at the U of Chicago. my professor finds this intriguing. me, i have a midterm tomorrow, so i figure i take a look at the website just in case she includes this stuff for extra credit or something on the test. me, i come to this site and think, wow, that painting is just nuts just thinking about how much work and precision and eccentricity went into this piece of artwork. i'd like to see the painting if i'm ever in the city the painting is in; does anyone know where it is on display, if it is on display? |

Overigens: het internet adres gegeven op p. 3 van Leidraad 11/02 is onjuist. Het kostte dus enige moeite om de site toch te vinden, maar wat er te zien was, was de kleine extra moeite zeker waard. |

| Ik denk dat Escher die vlek gewoon wit heeft gelaten omdat hij geen zin had in een zwarte vlek midden in zijn tekening. Of misschien heeft hij het wel gewoon zo gelaten als puzzeltje, en zijn er nu eindelijk mensen die het begrepen hebben. Ik kan me haast niet voorstellen dat hij niet wist hoe hij verder moest, want dat volgt nogal duidelijk uit de tekening. |

Natuurlijk had Escher zelf de witte vlek kunnen wegwerken, hij had er gewoon geen zin in.
Een andere mogelijkheid is, dat hij dacht dat doe ik morgen wel. Of hij heeft het juist zo gelaten als een "thinker", het why en waarom ?
