We bring together many leading experts in the subject and aim to give them an opportunity to present their latest results and insights. To create a situation that leads to fruitful exchange, the participants include both people working on the theoretical side of the subject, and those working on the explicit or experimental side. Through this we hope to achieve a better understanding of the current state of the art and to provide the basis for animated discussions. More importantly, we aim to identify and explore the most promising directions for future work. - Jul 27, 2008, Tel Aviv: Arithmetic geometry and public key cryptography
A summer school with the above mentioned title
was organized by Gerhard Frey (scientist in charge, Essen)
and Moshe Jarden (scientist in charge, Tel Aviv) in Tel Aviv
University. The summer school presented the basic features
of public key cryptography along with the necessary
background from arithmetic geometry. Fortenn German
students, 10 Israeli students and eight students from other
countries participated in the summer school.
The teachers consisted of Gerhard Frey (Essen), Moshe Jarden
(Tel Aviv), Wulf-Dieter Geyer (Erlangen), Frederik
Vercauteren (Leuven), Claus Diem (Leipzig), and Uzi Vishne
(Bar Ilan). Fifteen of the participants were GTEM members
among them six ESRs. In addition to the theoretical material
the students were introduced to a computational package
called SAGE and praticed it in the afternoons. The topics
presented included
1. Curves, Jacobian, and zeta functions over finite fields.
2. Principles of public key cryptography, RSA, discrete
logarithms, and protocols based on pairings.
3. Index calculus for curves of small genus
4. Applications in the world of communications
5. Arithmetic of elliptic and hyperelliptic curves.
6. Point counting
7. Duality theorem and Brauer groups.
